WELCOME to the “Walk It Off in 30 Days” Walk Challenge WALKERS!!!

We are going to have a very healthy month together … I promise you!
Slimmer, Stronger and Healthier by Thanksgiving 2013!
To get started let’s all choose just “one” of these measurement options:
1 – weigh yourself
OR
2 – measure inches from waistline, hip and upper arm areas
OR
3 – choose a specific outfit and note how it fits
OR
4 – THE ULTIMATE Measurements – Have your health professional take your Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar Level, Blood Lipid Profile (cholesterol levels), Resting Heart Rate, Body Composition (% of Body Fat), emotional health, brain health, bone density, joint range of motion …. oh yes …. EVERY SYSTEM of the body responds in 30 days ….. BIG TIME!
Weigh, measure or try on clothing before Tuesday, Oct. 1st. 
Write down your starting description. (weight, inches or fit of clothing)
Write down the time of day that you will exercise each day.  It’s your MOST IMPORTANT appointment of the day!
For the full 30 days, plan 30 to 45 mins. of exercise time.
1st Week Exercise Plan:
Tues. Oct. 1 – 2 Mile Walk (If you can’t measure distance – walk for 30 minutes or 4,000 steps)
Wed. Oct. 2 – 1 Mile in the Morning + 1 Mile in the Evening + Strength Training for the Core (abs)
(or Walk 15 minutes (2,000 steps) in AM – 15 minutes in PM + Abs)
Thurs. Oct. 3 – 2 Mile Walk
Fri. Oct. 4 – 1 Mile (AM) + 1 Mile (PM) + Strength Training for Upper Body
Sat. Oct. 5 – 2 Mile Walk
Sun. Oct. 6 – 1 Mile (AM) + 1 Mile (PM) + Strength Training for Lower Body
Strength Training Tools and Suggestions:
***Many of the Walk at Home DVDs offer Strength Training segments. The new DVD “Walk It Off in 30 Days” has a 30 Minute “Full Body” Strength Training segment that gives you every exercise you need for a “lifetime” of toned, firm, strong muscles! I will be using that DVD for my strength training workouts this month.

***Follow these exercises:
For Abs:
- Do 3 sets of 15 Curl Ups (Abdominal Crunches)
- Do 3 planks (or have planks with knees on floor) Hold for 20 seconds each.
For Upper Body:
- Do 3 sets of 10 of each exercise:
Chest Press with Dumbbells
Bent Over Row with Dumbbells
Bicep Curls
Triceps Extensions
For Lower Body:
- Do 3 sets of 15 of each exercise:
Squats (add challenge – hold dumbbells)
Lunges
Add Dumbbells for increased results – good starting weights are 3, 5 or 8 lb. sets.  Intermediate to Advanced weights are 8, 10, and 12 lb. sets.
And finally …. just DO as much as you can …. even half of the daily assignments WILL GIVE YOU RESULTS …. don’t spend anytime worried about a missed session …. just start again the next day!

    Does this trump the year long mile a day challenge? I have been very faithful- not a single missed day :) I did notice that the mile did not change for the month of September. The good thing is that it is stuck on a walking strong with hand weights one. Thanks Leslie!

    Excited to begin this plan and see what it may bring. I have loved Leslie’s walking plan for years! I am 40, have never struggled with my weight, and now I have hypothyroid issues that are making it impossible to lose weight. I have weighed 130 – 135 for the past 10 years, and now after a pregnancy at the age of 38 and the low thyroid I cannot get below 165. This is a real struggle for me as I have a closet full of clothing that doesn’t fit, and I know that this body is not me. So, I am taking on this 30 day challenge to see if I can get it to budge. I am going to journal, exercise, and see if I can get some results. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Good luck!

    Thanks!! Will be with you for the 30 days. I have lost 30 lbs over the last year….. and my arthritis is better. And I move every day with you at 45 so I can continue to move when I am 70.

    I am excited about this-however, I have a quick question. I work as a RN–on those days when I work, I run around for 12 hour shifts. I don’t get up early enough–can I count the 2nd half for the workout for the abs, upper, lower body parts? My goal is to keep up as best as I can with this–I need to see a difference and I need to lose weight. My joints hurt and when I exercise, they feel better. Thanks for the encouragement Leslie!

    My name is Colleen and since I have been doing the walk away the pounds dvd and using portion control with my food I have lost 25 pounds since Aug. 5. I love this walking program. It motivates me and really gets me looking forward to working out. I always find the time to do it. I’m looking forward to starting this challenge.

    Thank you Leslie for all that you do, I have been walking with you for over 10 years, you are awesome. I was watching the video and thinking, “My Old Navy “Dreamer” jeans” are what I’m going to use to gauge my efforts, then you said that is what you are going to use, what a small world. They have discontinued making the “Dreamer” cut, so I need to get back to the few pairs that I have fitting me loosely…..Thanks again.

    You are a blessing in my life, Leslie!
    I would love to join the challenge. Being an advanced walker who does between 15-30 miles a week with your DVDs (plus weight training with your DVDs), I need your advice how to go about the challenge. I’m afraid that if I follow the suggested schedule it will be less than what I usually do and I do love the long walks and the benefits of doing them. Could you suggest what advanced walkers should do during the challenge? I also would love to be slimmer by Thanksgiving!

    Another question is in regard to the meal plans. What do you suggest in case of getting hungry between meals?

    A friend posted this link of facebook. I’m in. I needed something to challenge me and this might just be it. I’ve been walking close to 2 miles a day for the last 3 weeks but haven’t seen a difference and watching what I eat. We’ll see what happens.

    Leslie, this is exactly what I have been needing. Just gained 4 pounds and I am diabetic. Lost 45 pounds and never want to go back there. I have been having problems with Zumba making my

    I take our dog out for a walk every day so I know it won’t be a problem for me to reach the walking goal. However, I find strength training dull and uninspiring so this is just what I need to get me on track, gradually building up a habit over the next few weeks.

    I’m so very excited to be starting this challenge! I turned 59 September 29 and I am 60 lbs overweight. No matter what I do, walk, run, diet, it’s not budging. I’m so dedicated to trying this program and eating with the 30 day simple slim down meal plan. I really need to lose this weight!!! I too have enjoyed 2, 3, and 4 mile walks everyday with Leslie for the past two months. Can’t wait to get started tomorrow!!

    I completed the Cardio workout from the 30 Day Challenge DVD a little while ago. Different from my other WALK DVD workouts. Love the music. I wanted to start a day early so I could be on track for the M,W,F Cardio workouts. So glad I have the new DVD. Excited about losing 25-30 pounds by Thanksgiving. :)

    I am looking forward to this but my real personal challenge for me is going to be not getting on the scale. It’s my ball and chain I get on it everyday sometimes throught out the day. So after Oct.1st I will put it under the bed until Nov 1. I am already feel the withdrawal symptoms jousting typing this text.

    I’m very excited about this challenge. It is coming at the perfect time for me. I’ve always been overweight, but even overweight I’ve always considered myself “healthy”. But just last month I was put on high blood pressure medicine. At 27 I find myself at 277 lbs struggling to keep up with me five year old. I am determined to make a change and I’m determined to meet this challenge. Let’s get moving!

    I started The 30 Day Challenge today. I did the 2 mile, 30 min. walk. I can’t believe I made it all the way through! I kept moving through the whole thing! I couldn’t always do the kicks because of my knees but I did everything else! Woo Hoo!

    I started this on Monday even though it was still September. My third day and so far so good. I thought I was in pretty good shape but the 30/30 dvd is kicking my butt! I LOVE IT

    Excited to do this month long challenge. So glad my sister showed me your dvd’s. After total right knee replacement, I was afraid to walk for fear of falling. After I purchased it, I was made aware of the 30 day challenge…perfect!! So, I will be using my new Walk It Off In 30 Days DVD on this 30 day challenge.     Had another good day. Besides doing the challenge on Spark People Idaho team. I am doing a 30 day challenge here. I also did a 12 min seated core workout & 10 min lower body Blast with Dumbbells on Spark People. Total for day was 5.70 miles 1 mile of this was burn body fat 1 mile with Leslie.

    I just finished Day 3 of the Slimmer by Thanksgiving challenge. I have used your tapes off and on for over 4 years. I have numerous tapes, and switch around. Right now I am using the Ultimate 5 Day Walk Plan DVD. I am 83 years old and exercise every day. Today I have done a 45 minute Tai Chi class along with the 2 mile walk. I do that class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I go to the Community Center and take a 1 hour exercise class. On Tuesday and Thursday I also go to the gym and work with a trainer. I had my right hip replaced on January 3, 2013, and have been working to strengthen the new hip. I lost 50 pounds in 2009 and have kept it off since then. Also, my health has improved immensely. I have a Geriatrician and a heart doctor that both check me every 6 month, and my tests are always better than the last one was. Sorry to be so long winded, but I am well pleased with myself. I also eat very healthily by following the NutriMirror Web Site. They keep track of all my nutrition.

    As your faithful walker for over 15 years you must know I own just about every video you have. Love the new ones this year only Im upset, I pre-ordered your newest Dvd walk away to the hits from Walamrt, It was advertised to release on Oct 1st,, now they say it is to release Dec 1st? Is this correct, did your release date changed?? Just can not wait to get this one, at 47 I,m still in the best shape all thanks to you and my commit to walking with you for years.

    Had another good day today. Did 3.10 miles. Had to ice knee tonight as I didn’t put my pain management patch on today. Wanted to see how I would do without it. I love doing challenges. I am doing 3 now & it is really great. It takes my mind off my other medical problems.

    Just out of curiosity, will this blog (and the challenge posts) remain available after the challenge? My children’s two-week fall break is this week and next, so I’m postponing my own challenge until they go back to school in order to avoid interruptions, etc…..

    I walk 4-5 miles 6 days a week with you and have lost 97 pounds thus far. Going for another 20 I think. LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR DVDS!!! :D I already do more than this specific challenge–actually need more :-)

    I am so excited about this challenge. One of my biggest challenges is to stay motivated and disciplined when starting an exercise program, but since I discovered Walk at Home that is history. I wear my pedometer every day, I purchased a couple of your videos and walk every day. It is easy and I makes me just want to keep walking. I am ready to build in strenght training and join the challenge for a healthier me. Thank you!

    I just now learned of this challenge…..Can I still join even though you are a month into it? I have been exercising this past month. I had a heart attack in the beginning of September and have been exercising in Cardiac Rehab since, plus I have added your DVD’s at home. I would like to see how much I can do this month.

    Hello everyone, I am a mother of two a 6 yr old and 2 yr old and with my second child I gained A LOT of weight so I decided this year that enough is enough, so I had the walk away dvd,started doing my workout 2 weeks and 2 days. And I love it as always Leslie is very encouraging love her. I decided not to weight my self instead I decided to just go by clothes that used to not fit me and let me tell you I fit in a lot of clothes that did not fit me before. I feel sooo much better my kids tell me all the time how skinny I’m getting and my husband as well. Of course i had to get strict on my diet but walk away the pounds has helped me out very much. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Leslie for helping me get back to who I was before I look better and most important feel awesome.

    I live in South Africa. I purchased a DVD online and had to go to extreme measures and pay the computer fundi’s to have it converted to a flashdrive so I can play it on my TV screen, due to the fact that it is only compatible with Region 1, being USA. They copied only half of the DVD and not in the correct sequence.

    I love doing your walk /work outs but cannot buy DVD,s for our region. Is it at all possible to release DVD’s for other regions or be able to purchase it online as a ebook/evideo ??? so I can just save it on my flashdrive ?
