27 Sep #1 QUESTION of all time!
Good Monday everybody!
We get great questions all the time here at Walk at Home .com – but of the frequently asked …. this one is always the most popular … and a great question it is …. “How many calories do I burn with each mile?” To all that have asked this question …. it means you are paying attention to your health … BRAVO to that!
Calorie burn is an “individual” matter. Everyone burns (uses) calories at a different rate. Because “many factors” effect the rate at which we use calories, I am going to break this down over the next few days … addressing the most influential factors …. here’s one ….
AGE … we naturally burn fewer calories as we age … we usually start to notice this “slow burn” in our 40’s and 50’s …. however there is GOOD NEWS to solve that … IF you keep “muscles conditioned” your calorie burning potential can stay high or at least, NOT decline to a sluggish rate! How do we keep muscles conditioned? …. You are doing it by combining “brisk” exercise … that is also called “aerobic” or “cardio” exercise … with “firming” exercises …. that is “strength training” or “toning” exercises.
In many of our walks we feature “light strength training” by adding a walk “booster” tool …. that’s the hand weights, bands or walk belt. This gives our muscles more demand (a calorie boost) during the walk!
Keeping conditioned as we age … rewards us with a “healthy” calorie burn!
Tomorrow … we talk GENDER!
Happy WALKING Everybody!
