We are Revvvving up our Weight Loss with a Walk Challenge at iVillage …. another great topic came in ….

Question from iV Challenge member:

Hi,
Recovering from an auto accident and of course gained weight after surgery and multiple procedures and trying to restart.  Any ideas appreciated.

LS: I LOVE your spirit!  Even when life brings the challenges …. you have that beautiful “will” to “restart!”
We all need that message …. no matter what kept us from caring for our full health in the past –  KEEP STARTING …. START AGAIN!  I “start again” every morning!  The good news is that our bodies can heal and return to strength and healthy performance at any stage of life!  Assuming you are healing and feeling stronger each day – and MOST IMPORTANT – that you are working with your docs – I say – try a few minutes of my Walk at Home program.
It’s a good way to start back to regular exercise because of the convenience and privacy that your home allows … you can “go at your own pace!”
Try my video – 1 Mile Walk – there’s no charge - http://www.walkathome.com/try-walk-at-home/ just visit my site anytime and starting walking at a pace that is comfortable for you.  Naturally you will get stronger – you don’t have to “force” fitness – if you put in a few minutes each day … you’ll build your strength to where you feel your best!
You are amazing for moving life forward with a “restart!”
Let me know how you are doing friend!

It is never too late to restart. I have a chronic illness and sometimes have to take a break but always start again at some point. Every little bit helps and Leslie offers so many different workouts that you can find some to suit you and work at your pace. I do best with the 1-mile workouts (usually 15-20 minutes) as I get a bit too tired at the longer distances but even a 5-minute walk can make you feel more energetic. Good luck and take care.

Interesting story Leslie, I first discovered you years ago once I was finally able to start slowly back into exercise after recovering from car accident injuries......I've been walking with you ever since then! To the one who wrote that post, talk about Leslie's workouts or better yet, bring the dvd's to your doctor/physical therapist and they can better judge how to use her walks to help you get your strength back!

I am interested to find out if you have anymore walk & jog or jog only dvd's. I have two but would like more.

It seems we tend to turn to this workout when we are trying to recover from injury. I'm a dancer, Level 2 certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format. I usually do very strenuous, boot camp style workouts to challenge myself. Two Mondays ago, however, I woke up with pain in the lumbosacral area. I don't know why it happened, what caused it, but it happened. I was in excruciating pain every time I walked or tried to get up from a seated or lying position (I couldn't even tell if I had proper posture as I walked, because it felt like I was arching back every time). I stayed off the back for the week, then when I started feeling better, I eased into exercise with Leslie Sansone's walking workouts. I had already been using them during a Walkabout Challenge at work (and I won the individual category twice!), and I started using them again. I feel so good now that I can work out again, and easing into the harder stuff by starting to move gradually with walking (to these videos) is helping me ease into the more strenuous parts of my dance practice.

I have done Leslie's workouts for years, but I can no longer walk long distances because of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, which causes foot pain if I walk or stand longer than about ten minutes. It was very discouraging, but I have modified the workouts by using an inexpensive exercise cycle/peddler that I use sitting on a chair. I can cycle instead of walk and use some variations, like backwards peddling for knee lifts, and do more arm movements and am still able to get a pretty good workout...even without walking!

Leslie, I just wanted to tell you from the bottom of my heart Thank you and Bless you, because of your videos and the encouraging words you speak in all of them I got determined again to finally lose this weight. I had lost 40+ pounds but for some reason the last ten seemed to over whelm me I had stop exercising or eating right an I saw you on exercise tv, so I thought that would be a great way to start again. I did 2 mile walk, then I saw a dvd with boosted walking an I was hooked. I did 30mins a day an got good results so I bumped it up to 1hr or 1hr an 30mins and now in two weeks time I have lost 11 pounds. I am one ecstatic women, I finally put some effort into myself an it was more than worth it :).
